Both are Indonesian nationals, from Bangkalan, in the eastern part of Java Island (Indonesia), including Ms. Hj. Mukatin Wakimin Samin (67 years old) and Ms. Hj. Salimah Deman Sadih (85 years old).
Officials from the Bangkalan Religious Office later confirmed that the two pilgrims Hajj (a convert to Islam who was on a pilgrimage to the Mecca Holy Site in Saudi Arabia) died on a Saudia flight, departing at 4:30 a.m. (local time), from Saudi Arabia to Indonesia.
The two people who died on the plane are believed to be from the 29th pilgrimage group, along with the 30th and 38th groups. The total number of people participating in the pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia is up to 659 people.
The doctor in charge of the 29th group said that Ms. Hj. Mukatin is likely to be affected by high blood pressure, while Hj. Salimah was reported to have had a heart attack. The health of both people became worse due to the distorted weather throughout the flight.
The doctor added that all efforts to save lives were quickly deployed as soon as there was a request for support, however, Ms. Hj. Mukatin was declared dead about 15 minutes after falling unconscious and Ms. Hj. Salimah passed away just five minutes later.
The two bodies were taken to Burneh district, Bangkalan for burial after arriving. Local authorities and religious leaders sent their condolences and support to the condolence families.
