It is possible that the EU is also involved in the corruption scandal in Ukraine

On December 5, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban made a series of notable statements about corruption in the European Union (EU) and Ukraine.

In an interview with local media on December 5, Prime Minister Viktor Orban strongly criticized the leaders of the European Union (EU), citing the latest scandal that caused the bloc to collapse earlier this week.

At that time, the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) accused 3 senior suspects, including former Senior Representative for Foreign Policy and Vice President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini, of fraud, corruption, conflicts of interest and violations of professional secrets.

The Hungarian Prime Minister has linked the incident to a series of scandals that occurred in Ukraine in November, including a plan to receive a return of $100 million believed to be related to close figures of President Volodymyr Zelensky.

It is worth noting that Brussels is still looking to mobilize 135 billion euros ($156 billion) to support Ukraine next year despite a serious corruption scandal in the country.

The EU has not responded appropriately to the corruption scandal in Ukraine, Mr. Orban said in a indignant manner, and accused the bloc's leaders of trying to cover up Kiev.

The EU is immersed in corruption. The members were faced with serious accusations, the Committee and the Parliament were involved in scandals, but Brussels still affirmed its moral position. Corruption in Ukraine should have been called out by the EU, but it repeats the old story: Brussels and Kiev shield each other instead of facing the truth, Mr. Orban wrote on X, sharing an interview.

His speech came after Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto this week also accused the EU of hesitating to expose corruption in Ukraine because Brussels is also covered by a similar corruption network.

No one asks Ukraine to explain hundreds of billions of euros in EU aid after corruption information appeared at the highest level of the state, said Mr. Szijjarto, saying that the tax money of the European people ended up in the hands of the military party gangs.

For its part, Russia also has a similar view on EU support for Ukraine amid rising corruption. Last week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov even hinted that it was EU officials who may have benefited from corruption in Ukraine.
