The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Storm/Low Pressure Forecast Bulletin on December 6 said that a low pressure area is expected to form in the Philippine Forecast Area (PAR) during the week of December 6-12, 2024. The low pressure area is forecast to pass through the Visayas, Northern Mindanao and Palawan.
It is not yet clear whether this low pressure will enter the East Sea or not, but PAGASA forecasts that the possibility of this low pressure strengthening into a storm is low.
During the week of December 13-19, a second low pressure area is forecast to develop in the southeast of PAR, with the possibility of strengthening into a storm.
According to PAGASA's weather forecast bulletin, the northeast monsoon is affecting northernmost Luzon, bringing rain and thunderstorms, leading to the risk of flash floods and landslides.
Meanwhile, the Vietnam National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting also issued a bulletin on the northeast monsoon, saying that from December 7, the cold air will intensify, continuing to affect the Northwest, North Central, Central Central and some places in the South Central. Northeast winds inland will be strong at level 3-4, coastal areas at level 4-5.
From December 7, the weather in the North will turn cold, from the night of December 7, the weather in the North Central region will turn cold. The lowest temperature in this cold air mass in the North and North Central regions is generally from 15-18 degrees Celsius, in mountainous areas 12-14 degrees Celsius, in high mountainous areas, some places below 10 degrees Celsius.
Hanoi area has scattered rain, light rain; from December 7, the weather will turn cold. The lowest temperature in this cold air mass is commonly 15-18 degrees Celsius.
The Hong Kong Observatory (China) also said that this special administrative region will welcome cold air from December 7, with temperatures ranging from 18-23 degrees Celsius on December 7 and dropping to 16 degrees on December 8. The highest temperature is expected to be 20 degrees.
The weather bureau said the drop in temperatures was due to the northeast monsoon and cold air gradually strengthening, affecting southern China.
Temperatures are expected to gradually drop by the end of next week due to the impact of another monsoon.
