A good start to the Vietnam - China Humanitarian Exchange Year

In the context of Vietnam and China celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (January 18, 1950 - January 18, 2025), the phone call on January 15 between General Secretary To Lam and General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping was an important and very good start of the Vietnam - China Humanitarian Exchange Year, demonstrating the high regard and top priority of each side for the relationship between the two Parties and the two countries, guiding effective cooperation activities between the two Parties and the two countries in 2025 and the following years.

In a phone call on January 15, General Secretary To Lam affirmed that Vietnam always considers developing relations with China a top priority in its overall foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, and diversification. General Secretary and President Xi Jinping affirmed that the Chinese Party and State prioritize developing relations with Vietnam in its neighborly foreign policy.

On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam and General Secretary and President Xi Jinping jointly announced the launch of the Vietnam-China Humanitarian Exchange Year 2025; agreed to coordinate well in organizing activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the Vietnam-China Humanitarian Exchange Year 2025; and step up propaganda and education among all classes of people, especially the young generation of the two countries, about the good traditional friendship between Vietnam and China.

The two General Secretaries agreed to continue to strengthen strategic exchanges between the two Parties and the two countries, especially high-level exchanges that have strategic orientation significance for the overall bilateral relationship; improve the effectiveness of cooperation mechanisms on the Party, Government, National Assembly/National People's Congress, Fatherland Front/Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference channels; promote defense and security cooperation commensurate with its role as one of the important pillars of the bilateral relationship; create new breakthroughs in economic cooperation, prioritize accelerating the connection of three standard-gauge railway lines between the two countries, expand trade and investment cooperation and in emerging fields. General Secretary and President Xi Jinping welcomed Vietnam's efforts to promote quality to expand the consumption of high-quality Vietnamese agricultural products in the Chinese market.

Immediately after the phone call, Chinese media simultaneously reported on this important event. Xinhua News Agency emphasized that General Secretary and President Xi Jinping said he was very pleased to have a phone call with General Secretary To Lam at the end of the old year and the beginning of the new year on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Vietnam. The People's Daily on January 16 also published on its front page this important event, the newspaper informed that General Secretary To Lam expressed that Vietnam will continue to take the development of Vietnam-China relations as a top priority in its foreign policy.

On the morning of January 14, in Beijing, on the occasion of co-chairing the first Vietnam-China Deputy Foreign Minister-level Strategic Consultation, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Vu paid a courtesy call to Politburo member, Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The two sides agreed to continue to closely coordinate to promote bilateral relations in line with the "6 more" orientation agreed upon by senior leaders.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu emphasized that Vietnam always remembers the valuable assistance that China has given to Vietnam over many periods, and always considers developing relations with China a strategic choice and a top priority in Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification. Mr. Wang Yi affirmed that China highly values ​​its relations with Vietnam; is willing to maintain high-level contacts with Vietnam, consolidate political trust, promote substantive cooperation, and consolidate the public opinion foundation in the relationship between the two countries.
