According to WTHR-TV, Janice Tucker said that an envelope with a postmark dated May 10, 2020 was sent to her home in North Vernon last week. The woman was shocked to discover a 5-page letter that her brother William Lone had sent her while serving in the war in Vietnam in 1968,
"I called my brother who lives in South Carolina. I read the letter to him and he said he wrote it to me," Tucker shared on WHAS-TV.
Lone said he put the letter in a stamp envelope and gave it to another soldier who asked him to send it to his sister who lived with his family in Floyds Knobs, Indiana.
Tucker said the letter was not in the original envelope when it was received. This proves that someone has seen the letter, painstakingly found it and sent it to her current address. However, the new envelope outside the letter did not provide much clue about its long journey.
In the letter, her brother shared about his experiences and pain in the war that she could not imagine the length of it.
"It is a mystery why this letter came to me after 52 years of being written. Thank you to anyone who has found this letter, thank you for sending it to me. After all, I am very touched and want to thank my brother - the person I was not too close to until I got old," Tucker said.
She also said she is hoping to find out who sent the letter to her home so that she can directly thank and find out what happened to the letter on her 52-year journey.
