Moscow claimed that the technical-military cooperation agreement with Germany "had completely lost its practical significance" and was no longer consistent with the current tensions in bilateral relations.
In an official statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized: The agreement between the Russian government and the German Federal Republic on technical and military cooperation signed on June 14, 1996, in the current context, no longer has value and does not reflect the reality of Russia-Germany relations that are being dominated by the public hostility policy of Berlin and the increasingly obvious mobilization trend of the German government.
Russia affirmed that internal procedures to withdraw from the agreement are underway, marking a serious decline in Russia-Germany defense cooperation, which was a sensitive but effective exchange channel in the post-Cold War period.
Not stopping at the legal aspect, Moscow also condemned the Berlin government for intentionally manipulating German peoples ideology towards anti-Russia, and irs up military-political tensions in Europe. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Germany's current foreign policy is "unreasonable" and "directly threatens Russia's core security interests".
Russia-Germany tensions have escalated steadily since Berlin strongly supported Kiev in terms of politics, finance and military in the conflict in Ukraine. Germany's aid of Leopard tanks, artillery, and recently a commitment to transfer modern air defense systems to Ukraine has led to repeated criticism of Russia.
Meanwhile, the regime of Chancellor Olaf Scholz continues to maintain a tough stance, saying that Berlin cannot stand aside when European security is under threat. Recently, some leaked sources also show that Germany has discussed the possibility of deploying training for Ukrainian pilots to use F-16 fighters in its territory.
Russia's official announcement of its withdrawal from the military cooperation agreement with Germany is a signal that all security cooperation channels between the two European powers have now been completely frozen.
Although there has been no official statement from Berlin following Russia's move, observers say the relationship between the two countries will continue to deteriorate as both sides are not ready to make compromises in the context of increasingly Polarising global geopolitics.
