Oil tanker attacked by strange object off Oman Sea

The incident is a new follow-up to the previous ship fire in the Strait of Hormuz, as the US and Iran continue to retaliate against each other.

An "unidentified foreign object" hit a tanker off the coast of Oman, a British maritime authority said on July 21, amid Iran and the US continuing retaliatory attacks to compete for control of the Hormuz Strait.

The UK Maritime Trade Enforcement Agency (UKMTO) said it had "received many reports that a tanker was hit by an unidentified object in the Strait of Hormuz", and said the incident occurred 8 nautical miles northeast of Limah, Oman.

UKMTO has received many reports that a tanker is reporting via VHF 16 that it was hit by an unidentified object. Authorities are investigating," the UKMTO's coordination center said in a statement.

Previously, a ship caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz, UKMTO said on July 20, amid US and Iran's dispute over control of this key waterway. Ships are advised to move cautiously and report any suspicious activities to UKMTO.
