On the afternoon of September 26, Colombian President Gustavo Petro was seen using a loudspeaker to speak to a crowd of pro-Palestinian protests in New York, USA.
"Don't follow US President Donald Trump, follow humanity's orders. I knelt down as a Christian in front of the tombs of thousands of American soldiers who fell on the battlefield in Europe fighting against Putin. They are the ancestors of today's soldiers and maans. The US military must set an example. They are in a great alliance with people around the world," Petro told the crowd in New York through an interpreter.
Until the evening of September 26 (local time), in a post on X, the US State Department said that Mr. Petro's visa would be revoked for "reckless and calculent acts" on the streets of New York.
According to the US State Department, the statements of the Colombian President are not only violent but also call for US soldiers to defy orders.
Also on September 26, protests spread across New York as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke at the United Nations. Thousands of people marched through Midtown Manhattan, many of whom called for a ceasefire in Gaza and called Netanyahu a war criminal.
Previously, on September 23, Mr. Petro also gave a harsh speech at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, in which he publicly criticized the US foreign policy and called for legal action against US President Donald Trump.
Mr. Petro also strongly condemned the Western powers at that time, accusing the US of maintaining global inequality and calling the war in Gaza an extinction.
President Trump allows missiles to fire at children, women and the elderly in Gaza, Petro said at the United Nations.
However, the US State Department has not yet clarified whether Petro will be deported immediately and how this decision will affect future diplomatic activities. The Colombian government has not yet responded officially.
