On the evening of November 9 (local time), Slovakian authorities said that two trains collided on the railway line between the capital Bratislava and the town of Pezinok, injuring dozens of passengers.
Speaking at the scene of the accident, Minister of Home Affairs Matus Sutaj Estok said that out of dozens of people with minor injuries, 11 people had been taken to the hospital, while emphasizing that no deaths were recorded.
According to local media, the incident occurred when a train hit the back of the other train. The passenger described the incident as a "big explosion".
According to initial information, there was no direct collision between the two ships and neither ship had a derailed track, the Slovakian proxy forces Facebook announcement said.
Notably, this is the second consecutive railway accident in Slovakia in less than a month.
Previously, on October 13, two other trains also collided in the Roznava region of eastern Slovakia, injuring 91 people. Of which, 2 people were in critical condition.
The Slovakian Ministry of Home Affairs described the collision as a particularly serious traffic accident, but noted that the incident could be due to one of the two drivers refusing to give way to the remaining train.
Images from the scene show that the locomotive of one of the two trains was severely damaged, while the other train derailed. 5 ambulances and 1 helicopter were dispatched to the scene to rescue the victims.
