Ukrainian military aid pushes Germany to the brink of security instability

Germany's AfD member warned that providing more weapons and supporting Ukraine in the production of long-range missiles would put Berlin at risk of security risks.

On May 29, member of the Alternative for Germany ( Af Af AfD) Party Committee Markus Fronmaier warned that additional military aid to Ukraine is causing Germany to face risks in terms of national security and safety.

In an article published on the AfD's official website, Fronmaier frankly stated that the continued supply of billions of euros, combined with support for Ukraine in the production of long-range missiles, not only caused economic controversy but also poses serious risks to Germany's security.

According to the lawmaker, the Berlin government is also at risk of escalating tensions with Russia and marking opportunities to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, despite the efforts of US President Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, on May 28, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Berlin will continue to provide military aid to Ukraine with a value of 5 billion euros.

During a meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, Mr. Pistorius affirmed Germany's consistent stance and pledged to promote the common efforts of Kiev's partners, including in the field of air defense.

Previously, on May 6, the German government announced that Berlin had provided Kiev with financial aid of 1.6 billion euros (2022), 5 billion euros (2023) and 7.1 billion euros (2024), respectively. In 2024 alone, this figure includes contributions to the European Peace Fund (EPF) - a mechanism allowing the European Union (EU) to partially return military aid to member countries. In the period of 2025 - 2028, Germany also plans to provide an additional 2.9 billion euros in aid.

In terms of military, Germany has transferred equipment from the Bundeswehr's reserve warehouse (Germany Federal Defense Forces) with a total replacement value of an estimated 5.2 billion euros. More than 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been trained in Germany, at a cost of about 282 million euros.

The German government also noted that the entire amount was not included in the cost of treating the injured Ukrainian soldiers.

To date, Berlin has provided a series of notable equipment: 103 1A5 Leopard tanks, 18 2A6 Leopard tanks, 140 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, 269 MRAP armored vehicles, more than 60 Gepard artillery pieces, 6 IRIS-T air defense systems, 619 VECTOR reconnaissance unmanned Aerial Aerial Aerial Actions (UAVs), 1,050 HF-1 attack UAVs, 9 Zuzana 2 self-propelled artillery pieces, 454,000 155 mm artillery shells, along with tens of thousands of personal weapons and logistics equipment.
