The first gold medal achievement of the Vietnamese wrestling team at the 2026 Asian Youth Championship in Da Nang city belonged to player Do Ngoc Linh.
The female athlete entered the final and defeated opponent Sweety Sweety (India) with a score of 7-5 in the 50kg women's weight class of the U23 age group.
Do Ngoc Linh's medal is the first gold medal of the host team at the tournament.
The 2026 Asian Youth Championship in wrestling organizes freestyle wrestling for men, classical wrestling for men, and freestyle wrestling for women for the U23 and U17 age groups.
The Asian Wrestling Federation will organize indoor and beach events for the above 2 age groups. The U23 age group will compete in events from May 24 to May 26. The U17 age group will take place from May 28 to June 1.
Notably, the results of the beach wrestling competition in the U17 age group will be the basis for the Asian Wrestling Federation to award a spot to athletes to participate in the 2026 World Youth Olympics in October in Senegal.
This year is the 2nd time Vietnam has hosted the Asian Youth Championship. We once organized this tournament in 2025 also in Da Nang city and organized the content for U17, U23.
This year's tournament attracts nearly 900 athletes from 25 countries and territories of Asia competing in 2 age groups.
