The Vietnam General Martial Arts Federation (VMMAF) and the MMA General Martial Arts Department (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports) have just announced that the Vietnamese MMA General Martial Arts Team has completed the registration of ASIAD 20 cards for 2 athletes Lo Thi Phung and Quang Van Minh.
The Asian General Martial Arts Association - AMMA awarded 2 special slots for the 49kg women's (modern MMA) and 77kg men's (traditional MMA) events to Vietnamese Sports.
The professional department of the Vietnam General Martial Arts Federation and the general martial arts department of MMA (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports) carefully considered professional matters to determine to grant ASIAD participation opportunities to Lo Thi Phung (female) and Quang Van Minh (male).
The registration of match cards with the ASIAD 20 Organizing Committee of 2 Vietnamese MMA fighters has been confirmed.
Previously, July 1st was the deadline for registering the final official competition cards of the sports teams participating in ASIAD 20.
For the first time, MMA is included in the official program at ASIAD 20.
This sport will be competed from September 20 to September 23 with 6 sets of medals including 65kg, 77kg (traditional MMA men), 60kg (traditional MMA women), 60kg, 71kg (modern MMA men), 54kg (modern MMA women).
Lo Thi Phung once won the championship in the women's 49kg modern MMA event at the 3rd Asian MMA General Martial Arts Championships (2026) in January this year.
Meanwhile, Quang Van Minh once won the 65kg MMA modern men's event at SEA Games 33. However, the result was only for performance, not counted in the overall medal standings of SEA Games 33.
Due to the first time organizing MMA at ASIAD 20, the Asian General Martial Arts Association has conducted a qualifying round to compete for a spot in this Games.
Currently, martial artist Lo Thi Phung is a player of the Vietnam Jujitsu Team and the Vietnamese MMA General Martial Arts Team. She has just auctioned off 2 gold medals to raise 120 million VND to support people in Lai Chau province affected by floods recently.
