The Vietnamese MMA general martial arts team will have the opportunity to participate in ASIAD 20 in September in Japan.
We have just received 2 slots including 54kg women and 77kg men specially awarded by the Asian General Martial Arts Association.
According to Lao Dong's investigation, the Professional Board of the Vietnam General Martial Arts Federation MMA will consider sending martial artists Quang Van Minh and Lo Thi Phung to ASIAD 20.
At SEA Games 33 held in Thailand last year, martial artist Quang Van Minh won a gold medal in the 65kg modern MMA weight class.
MMA at SEA Games 33 is considered a performance sport, not adding medals to the overall achievement table.
Meanwhile, martial artist Lo Thi Phung once won a gold medal at the 3rd Asian Championships-2026 held in China earlier this year.
MMA is for the first time included in the competition program of the Asian Games (ASIAD) from the 20th ASIAD in Japan this year.
The Asian Olympic Council – OCA and the Asian General Martial Arts Association, the host organizers Japan have agreed to conduct 6 official MMA events at ASIAD 20 including 54kg women; 60kg, 71kg (men) for modern MMA and 60kg; 65kg, 77kg (men) for traditional MMA.
Although it is the first time organized at ASIAD 20, the organizers still conducted qualifying rounds to award official slots.
The results of the ASIAD 20 qualifying round are calculated at the 4th Asian Championships-2026 taking place in May 2026.
In this tournament, the Vietnamese MMA General Martial Arts Team did not send fighters to compete.
According to the ASIAD 20 program, MMA will kick off on September 20.
