Boxing (boxing) of ASIAD 20 tightens registration for competition in women's events.
Gender testing in the form of SRY gene testing is mandatory.
Female athletes participating in the ASIAD 20 boxing event must have test results sent to the Organizing Committee in accordance with the requirements in the Professional Regulations.
This is in accordance with the regulations of the World Boxing Organization (World Boxing) and the Asian Boxing Federation (Asian Boxing).
From the end of 2026, official tournaments belonging to the Asian boxing system will all conduct gender registration checks for athletes competing in the women's event.
One of the contents clearly stated by World Boxing in the official announcement issued from August 2025 is: "The policy requiring gender testing is introduced to ensure safety for all participating boxers and create a fair playing field for both men and women.
Boxers over 18 years old who want to participate in competitions owned or licensed by the World Boxing Organization must undergo a SRY gene screening test (Test SRY).
Or, boxers undergo a medical-functional equivalent test only once in their lifetime to determine their sex at birth and their conditions for competing...".
The boxing event of ASIAD 20 will compete in 5 women's weight classes including: 51kg, 54kg, 60kg, 65kg, 75kg. For men, 6 events will compete including: 55kg, 60kg, 70kg, 80kg, 90kg and over 90kg.
This is the first time at ASIAD, the Professional Regulations of boxing clearly state that athletes are required to have SRY gene test results.
The Vietnamese boxing team is expected to have 6 boxers at ASIAD 20.
