Recently, the World Boxing Federation (World Boxing) officially announced the 2026 Youth Olympic spots for 79 countries and territories around the world.
At the Games to be held in Senegal from October 31st to November 13th, boxing has 5 male weight classes (50kg, 55kg, 60kg, 65kg, 70kg), 5 women's weight classes (48kg, 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg) to compete.
There are 60 male and 60 female slots that have been officially decided based on the results of athletes in the Youth Olympic qualifiers held in Thailand in the 3rd round of 2026 as well as based on ranking criteria.
The Vietnamese boxing team participated in the Youth Olympic qualifiers but no boxer won a medal for the performance-based awarding events.
We have been waiting to receive a wild card, however, the World Boxing Federation has announced the list and there are no Vietnamese boxers.
Southeast Asia has only Thai boxing winning 2 slots to participate (1 male, 1 female).
According to the announcement, Africa was awarded a total of 30 scholarships, Latin America had 20 scholarships, Asia had 31 scholarships, Europe had 31 scholarships, and Oceania had 8 scholarships.
Boxing was first included in the Youth Olympics at the 2018 Games held in Argentina.
