Although they could not get the first points at the 2025 World Championship, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team still caused many difficulties for the German women's team - the opponent in the second match of Group G.
The match ended in a 3-0 draw with Germany (25-18, 25-17, 25-21). However, the match progress showed the commendable determination of coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team.
In set 2, the Vietnamese team had a time to successfully save 5 consecutive set-points. In set 3, Thanh Thuy and her teammates continued to try to catch up and only lost 21-25.
After the victory over Vietnam, striker Lina Alsmeier admitted that this match caused Germany many difficulties: "We were really happy. The German team set a goal of winning, but in reality it was not easy. The pressure was relatively high, so the match against Vietnam was quite difficult. Luckily, we played confidently and achieved the goal".
In this match, captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy made her mark when scoring 17 points, the highest in the match and surpassing all the stars of the German women's team.
The Volleyball World page of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has praised the main striker of the Vietnam women's team, emphasizing that all 17 points of Thanh Thuy came from powerful attacks.
Despite the failure, the resilient performance against a strong opponent showed the clear progress of Vietnamese women's volleyball in the international arena.
