The Vietnamese shooting team has won their first gold medal at the 2026 Southeast Asian Championships being held in Taiwan (China) and Trinh Thu Vinh is named on the gold medal list.
On June 6, our shooters competed in the women's 25m sports pistol event. The squad for this competition includes Trinh Thu Vinh, Nguyen Thuy Trang, Nguyen Thuy Dung.
Among them, Thu Vinh and Thuy Trang are expected to achieve the best individual results.
In the qualifying round, Nguyen Thuy Trang excellently achieved 588 points to rank first, while Thu Vinh had 587 points to rank 3rd, and Thuy Dung had 574 points to rank 12th.
Calculating team points, the 3 shooters achieved a total of 1749 points and won gold medals. This is the first gold medal of the Vietnamese shooting team in Taiwan (China) this year.
Entering the individual final round, Nguyen Thuy Trang maintained her best form to get 32 points and win a silver medal. In the individual shootout, shooter Trinh Thu Vinh did not win a medal.
However, the coaching staff of the Vietnamese shooting team assessed the gold medal in the women's 25m sports pistol team event as a great morale boost for the whole team.
On June 5th before that, shooter Le Thi Mong Tuyen competed for the women's individual 10m air rifle championship. Unfortunately, she only won a silver medal. In this event, the Vietnamese women's team won a team bronze medal.
In addition, the Vietnamese shooting team also won silver medals in the men's team 25m rapid fire pistol and the men's individual 25m rapid fire pistol (shooter Tran Cong Hieu). The men's shooters of the three-position rifle won bronze medals in the team event.
The Southeast Asian Championship will compete until the end of the 12th. 6. The Vietnamese shooting team still has many goals to compete for gold medals at the tournament.
