The Vietnamese men's basketball team ended the first round of the Asian Cup 2029 Pre-Qualifiers Tournament (Pre-Qualifiers FIBA Asian Cup 2029) in the late evening of August 31st local time in Mongolia.

18 teams were drawn into 4 groups. Group A was held in the UAE with teams Bahrain, UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Nepal.
Group B was held in Kazakhstan with teams from Kazakhstan, Palestine, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Kyrgyzstan.
Group C includes teams from Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong (China), and Singapore which took place in Malaysia while Group D has teams from Thailand, Mongolia, Vietnam, and Fiji competing in Mongolia.
The Vietnamese men's basketball team lost 3 matches in the group stage. We lost 64-98 to host Mongolia, lost 68-109 to Thailand and lost 57-69 to Fiji.
At the end of round 1, the Vietnamese men's basketball team ranked last in Group D, so they did not have a spot in round 2.
According to regulations, the 3 teams with the best results in each group are allowed to participate in the 2nd round of the Asian Cup 2029 qualifying round.
This is a tournament for the national team to compete in the 5x5 event.
