Accelerating tropical depressions are at risk of strengthening into storms near the East Sea

After storms Saudel, Narra and Atsani, many areas near the East Sea continue to have the possibility of forming tropical cyclones, with the possibility of strengthening into storms.

On August 26, according to the latest weather forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), it is forecast that up to 5 weather disturbances may form or enter the PAGASA Monitoring Area (PMD) area in the period from August 26 to September 8.

According to information announced at 2:00 PM on August 26 (Philippines time), currently no low pressure area (LPA) is being monitored with the possibility of forming a tropical cyclone.

In week 1, from August 26 to September 1, PAGASA said there would be no storms in PMD. However, in the above period, PAGASA forecasts 2 cyclones with characteristics similar to tropical cyclones (TCLV) are likely to form.

TCLV (1) is forecast to form between the eastern boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and the Tropical Cyclone Warning Area (TCAD). This system has the potential from medium to high to develop into a storm and is likely to enter PAR when moving towards Taiwan (China).

TCLV (2) is forecast to appear near the northwest boundary of PMD, with the possibility of developing into a low to moderate storm in week 1.

In week 2, from September 2nd to 8th, PAGASA forecasts 3 more cyclones with characteristics similar to tropical cyclones that are likely to form in PMD.

TCLV (3) is likely to appear near the northeastern boundary of TCAD and PAR, with the possibility of developing into a storm from moderate to high.

TCLV (4) is forecast to appear near the northwest boundary of PMD, with the possibility of developing into a storm from moderate to high.

Meanwhile, TCLV (5) is likely to appear near the eastern boundary of PAR, with the possibility of developing into a low to medium storm in week 2.

PAGASA assesses that the possibility of a threat from a tropical cyclone remains high throughout the forecast period.

According to PAGASA's storm naming list, the next 3 names that could be used are Pilandok, Queenie and Rosal.

PAGASA recommends that people continue to follow the latest weather bulletins to update on notable changes in forecasts.
