On September 20, Bui Ngoc Nhi won a bronze medal in the women's individual kata (performance) event in karate at ASIAD 20.
She will continue to compete in the women's team kata event on September 22.
The coaching staff of the Vietnamese karate team set a central goal for Ngoc Nhi and the athletes in the kata event to compete for the No. 1 position in the women's team kata event.
After September 20th, Bui Ngoc Nhi continues to be professionally prepared and will return to the women's team kata competition.
ASIAD 20 karate only allows each team competing in a team to register 3 athletes.
Therefore, the coaching staff of the Vietnamese karate team sent 3 athletes to compete in women's team kata including Bui Ngoc Nhi, Nguyen Ngoc Tram, Hoang Thi Thu Uyen.
Before participating in ASIAD 20 this year, 3 athletes competed in the 2026 Asian Championship but did not win any medals.
However, this team won a gold medal at the 2026 Southeast Asian Championship.
At ASIAD 19, the Vietnamese karate team once won a gold medal in women's team kata.
The Vietnamese sports delegation aims to defend the gold medal in this event at ASIAD 20.
Currently, the coaching staff of the Vietnamese karate team has not revealed the routine prepared for the upcoming official competition.
Bui Ngoc Nhi is a young face with good expertise of the Vietnam Karate Team and Hanoi Sports in the women's kata event.
3 martial artists Ngoc Nhi, Ngoc Tram, Thu Uyen have been trained for 1 month in Japan before participating in ASIAD 20.
