At the 2025 Southeast Asian Athletics Championship that just ended a few days ago, the Vietnam Weightlifting Team achieved impressive results with 24 Gold Medals, 11 Silver Medals, 9 Bronze Medals, continuing to affirm its No. 1 position in the region. This year, the Vietnam National Team will participate with 30 athletes, including 15 men's and 15 women's. Accordingly, the do l events will compete and rub shoulders in many categories: male freestyle, male classic, female freestyle - in the championship and U17.
In terms of individual achievements, the pillars of the Team are Nguyen Thi My Trang (women's 57kg category), Nguyen Thi My Hanh (62kg women's), Nguyen Thi My Linh (53kg women's) also won Gold Medals.
In addition, some young athletes such as Hong Hanh, Hoai Thu, Thao Thom, Kieu Trang, Manh Dat, Chi Hao, Gia Huy, Dinh Hieu, Bao Nam or Hai Anh also showed good expertise to achieve the highest ranking in each event.
Assessing the expertise after the tournament, Mr. Ta Dinh Duc - General Secretary of the Vietnam figure Federation, also in charge of the Department of Physical Education and Sports, Vietnam) - said that at the Southeast Asian Championship, many young athletes have affirmed their qualifications and prospects in the future.
These are all potential faces, carefully selected through training sessions and testing. Therefore, young captures need to be created more often for international competition to complete tactics and psychology. Since the beginning of 2025, Vietnamese wrestling has participated in two international tournaments: the Asian Championship (March) and the Southeast Asian Championship (May). This is considered the basis for the coaching staff to evaluate the collective and expertise of the collective as well as each individual to prepare the force towards the most important arena, SEA Games 33, which took place later this year.
Mr. Ta Dinh Duc said that currently, the team includes 30 male and 20 female athletes. The coaching staff of each professional group of male freestyle, male classic and female freestyle have been practicing most carefully for the athletes.
Regarding the goal, initially, the Vietnamese event aims to win at least 6 Gold Medals at the upcoming 33rd SEA Games, based on the assessment from the platform of current athletes as well as professional assessments from competitors in the region. In fact, the expertise between countries has shortened significantly, so we cannot be subjective.
Currently, the weightlifting department is also completing the training and competition plan for promising athletes in the 2026-2030 period, aiming for further goals at the ASIAD. In the immediate future, the coaching staff will have an investment plan suitable for each group of athletes according to each specific criterion.
