Wushu and the Olympic arena

ĐÌNH CHIẾN |

For the first time, wushu is included in the program of an official Olympics organized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Wushu will be one of 25 sports competing at the 2026 World Youth Olympics held in Senegal in October this year.

Wushu has had the opportunity to be included in the Olympic program but is not yet an official sport. The IOC once made wushu an exhibition sport at the 2008 Olympics held in Beijing (China).

At this time, wushu being officially organized at the 2026 World Youth Olympics will be a premise to help professionals of this martial art believe in a future that wushu can advance to the prestigious Olympic arena of the world. In terms of expertise, Vietnamese wushu athletes have every opportunity to compete for Gold Medals at the Asian, world, and World Cup levels. If wushu has the opportunity to officially participate in the Olympics, Vietnamese Sports will have the belief to move closer to realizing the goal of winning more Olympic medals in the future.

We are always eager to win more Gold Medals at the Olympics and this is an essential task prepared with a long history in the program "Developing key sports to prepare for participation in ASIAD, Olympics in the period 2026 - 2045" approved for implementation from May 7, 2026. However, a sport that wants to become an official Olympic sport will have to converge many factors and need time for the IOC to assess its development. However, dreams and opportunities can still be realized in the future. No one taxes it.
