World coffee prices on Friday continued their strong increase this week, driven by technical buying and short-term profit-taking, with breakouts to new highs in 2 months.
Arabica coffee this week increased by a total of +10.4% and Robusta coffee increased by a total of +18%. Basic positive factors include a frost at the beginning of the week in Brazil, reduced coffee exports from Brazil and reduced ICE inventories.
Earlier this week, a light price fog occurred in Cerrado mineiro, an important Arabica growing area in Brazil. Although the damage was reported to be low, the event highlighted the risk of frost in the current winter in Brazil.
Coffee prices have increased sharply since last Wednesday, when the Brazilian Ministry of Commerce reported that Brazil's unroasted coffee exports in July fell -20.4% compared to the same period last year to 161,000 tons.
In a related optimistic report released on Wednesday, Brazil's green coffee exports in July fell -28% year-on-year to 2.4 million bags, according to Cecafe Export Group.
