Domestic pepper prices
Today (September 2nd), domestic pepper prices continued to stand still during the long holiday, trading in the range of 135,000 - 137,000 VND/kg.
At the end of the recent trading session, Gia Lai, Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai all anchored at the threshold of 135,000 VND/kg.
In the same direction, Dak Lak announced a price of 136,500 VND/kg.
In Lam Dong, pepper prices are currently at the highest level of 137,000 VND/kg.
World pepper price
In the world market, pepper prices suddenly adjusted in some countries. Indonesia's black and white peppers are no exception, trading in the range of 6,893 - 9,438 USD/ton (equivalent to 181,011 VND/kg - 247,842 VND/kg), down 4 USD/ton and 5 USD/ton respectively.
In addition, the price of Brazilian black pepper sold to the market is 5,800 USD/ton (about 152,308 VND/kg). Black and white Malaysian peppers still maintain the same price range, trading at high prices, respectively 12,200 USD/ton and 9,300 USD/ton.
Notably, in Vietnam's pepper export market, black pepper prices of 500 g/l and 550 g/l are traded at 5,990 - 6,050 USD/ton. ASTA white pepper is offered for sale at 8,400 USD/ton (equivalent to 22,584 VND/kg).
Assessments and forecasts
After the decline at the end of August, domestic pepper prices stood still for many consecutive days, showing that the market is temporarily finding a new balanced zone. However, the gap from the highest level to the 140,000 VND/kg mark has increased to 3,000 VND, reflecting that the current buying force is not strong enough to pull prices back to the previous high zone.
In the short term, the current price range may continue to be maintained when world prices have not yet experienced strong fluctuations, so the main driving force in the coming sessions is likely to lie in the purchasing power of businesses, export demand and the amount of goods growers bring to the market.
