On July 29, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung attended the Party Congress of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAS) for the 2025-2030 term.
Regarding basic and applied scientific research, the Institute has effectively implemented many national key research topics and projects, creating valuable scientific results, published in prestigious international journals, contributing to enhancing Vietnam's scientific position in the international arena.
In 5 years, the Institute has published over 12,000 scientific works, of which the number of works published internationally is 8,400, an increase of 73% over the 2015-2020 term, exceeding 10%/year compared to the resolution.
The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology has a particularly important position, being the leading multi-disciplinary, multi-disciplinary science and technology research organization in the country.
To continue promoting this pioneering role, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that in the 2025-2030 term, the Party Committee of the Science and Technology Academy should focus on a number of key tasks.
In which, continue to focus on improving science and technology research capacity; investing in basic research development, expanding new research directions, anticipating world technology trends; developing core technology and source technology to create a knowledge foundation.
"In particular, it is necessary to pay attention to researching, developing and applying 11 strategic technology sectors that have just been issued by the Prime Minister" - the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
Government leaders said that the Institute needs to invest synchronously, modernize facilities and equipment for research, aiming for international standard laboratories, turning laboratories into technology "growth gardens".
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the Institute must innovate approaches to meet new trends and requirements set by the Party and State; form strong research groups, invest in good facilities. From there, rise up to do new things, difficult things, big things, important things.
Focus on building and developing high-quality human resources; increase training and fostering a team of leading scientists, talented young scientists; create mechanisms and policies to attract and promote talents, especially overseas Vietnamese scientists; build a professional and dynamic working environment, encourage creativity and innovation.
Continue to promote international cooperation and the integration of science and technology; proactively participate in international research networks and major science programs in the world.
Along with that, it is necessary to strengthen cooperation with the world's leading research institutes and universities to exchange experiences, transfer technology and train human resources; promote the role of a bridge in bringing advanced science and technology to Vietnam and introducing Vietnam's scientific achievements to the world.
The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that the Science and Technology Academy continue to promote the spirit of daring to think, daring to do, daring to try, daring to do wrong, pioneering in basic research and developing strategic technology, overcoming all barriers to create breakthroughs in science and technology research.
