The Ministry of National Defense has just issued Decision No. 2386 to establish the marine economic group (Army Corps 20) under the Ministry of National Defense on the basis of Saigon Port - Saigon New Port Corporation, according to the Government Electronic Information Portal on August 5.
The Ministry of National Defense accordingly handed over the Saigon New Port Corporation under the Navy to the Ministry of National Defense.
After the handover, the leaders of the Ministry of National Defense requested the 20th Corps to continue to thoroughly grasp and seriously implement the policies and instructions of the Party, State, Central Military Commission, Ministry of National Defense on military and defense work, economic combination with national defense, building and defending the Fatherland in the new period, especially the requirements of the Vietnam marine economic sustainable development strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045; the requirement for sustainable development of the marine economy must be associated with ensuring national defense, security, maintaining independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The 20th Army Corps must perform well the function of advising and proposing to the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, quickly stabilizing the organization of the payroll, perfecting the Party organization, command organization, mass organizations, regularly paying attention to improving facilities, improving the lives of cadres and workers in the unit.
Focus on leading, directing, and performing well the functions and tasks of the productive labor army, successfully carrying out the mission of "Connecting goods circulation, developing the marine economy, raising the level of the National Brand, contributing to building and defending the Fatherland".
Accelerating investment, expanding scale, doing business effectively, upholding the law, preserving and developing capital, the Corporation aims to become the leading Group in the country's marine economy sector.
The leaders of the Ministry of National Defense also requested the 20th Army Corps to focus on investing strongly, making breakthroughs, and pioneering in building a "green port", " standalone port/smart port", striving to soon start construction of Vietnam's first semi-autonomous port in Lach Huyen, Hai Phong in the first half of 2026; building and transferring "Saigon New Port License plate" to the "National License plate port" platform, contributing to promoting digital transformation of the seaport exploitation industry, logistics services and developing the national digital economy.
Regarding this activity, Tan Cang Saigon Corporation has organized the handover of the rights and responsibilities of the Chairman of Tan Cang Saigon Corporation Limited.
The handover was carried out between Colonel Nguyen Nang Toan - Deputy Commander of the 20th Corps, concurrently Deputy General Director of Tan Cang Saigon Corporation (on handover) and Major General Ngo Minh Thuan - Commander of the 20th Corps, Chairman and General Director of Tan Cang Saigon Corporation (on handover).
