Creating resources for long-term goals At the age of 91, Mr. Nguyen Lang Chu (retired cadre, 60 years of Party membership) residing in Thanh Cong ward, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi still regularly follows the country's current affairs.
Holding a newspaper with an article titled "Fighting waste" by General Secretary and President To Lam, Mr. Nguyen Lang Chu emphasized that this is an issue that is of great concern to public opinion.
According to Mr. Nguyen Lang Chu, in order for the country to develop quickly and sustainably, the "disease of waste" must be resolutely eliminated and only by "fighting waste" can our country have enough resources to enter a new stage of development.
The article “Fighting against waste” by General Secretary and President To Lam stated: “We are facing a historic opportunity to bring the country into the era of national development. This is also the time to shape our future. To seize opportunities, push back challenges, strongly increase resources to care for the people, enrich the country in the new revolutionary period, build a bright future, the work of preventing and combating waste needs to be implemented drastically, synchronously with effective solutions, creating strong spread, becoming voluntary, self-aware of each cadre, party member and citizen, a culture of behavior in the new era…”.
“Bureaucracy and waste are like internal invaders and as dangerous as corruption.”
Mr. Ta Van Ha - Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education - said that through this article, the content of "anti-waste" is put in a new context, the context of national development, the context in which our country is determining the historical starting point to enter the era of development. Therefore, this content becomes more important and urgent.
“General Secretary and President To Lam raised this issue in the current context. It is a very topical issue. That shows that practicing thrift and fighting waste has become an extremely important issue, a core issue for the country in the era of development. Bureaucracy and waste can now be called internal invaders, as dangerous as corruption. Corrupt behavior is committed by those in power, but waste can be committed by anyone and that is what General Secretary and President To Lam mentioned, showing that the problem of waste is very large, very dangerous, eroding the people's trust" - Mr. Ta Van Ha analyzed.
National Assembly delegate Pham Van Hoa (Dong Thap delegation) expressed the view that “waste is something that is lost, something that cannot be recovered”.Waste is the use of resources for useless activities, causing loss and damage to assets.Waste originates from weak capacity, or indifference, lack of responsibility.
“Corruption and waste are both acts that slow down socio-economic development, reduce people's trust in the State's management activities and directly negatively impact the political, economic and social stability of the country, both deserve to be condemned and punished” Mr. Hoa stated and said that “fighting waste” is an inevitable requirement to develop the country in the coming period.
Dr. Le Trung Kien (Ho Chi Minh Institute and Party Leaders, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics) said that waste causes a decline in human resources, financial resources, reduces production efficiency, increases the burden of costs, depletes resources, and widens the gap between rich and poor. Moreover, waste also causes a decline in people's trust in the Party and State, creates invisible barriers in socio-economic development, and misses development opportunities for the country. Therefore, for the country to enter the era of development, the requirement of "fighting waste" is a very urgent task that must be carried out both regularly and long-term.
Waste is a major obstacle to sustainable development. Dr. Cu Van Trung, Director of the Institute for Policy Research and Social Issues, emphasized: Waste, especially in the public and economic sectors, reduces the efficiency of resource use, causes great losses to the State budget and weakens the economy. In the context of globalization and competition, wasting resources can slow down the country's development.
Building a solid foundation to rise in the new era "Fighting waste is not only an economic task, but also a sustainable development strategy to help Vietnam build a solid foundation to rise in the new era. When each individual and organization clearly understands their role in this work, that is when we are truly creating a strong, modern and prosperous Vietnam" - Dr. Le Trung Kien emphasized.
