At the press conference for the first quarter of 2025 held on the afternoon of April 11, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen informed about the proposed roadmap to merge Can Tho City with Hau Giang and Soc Trang.

According to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, regarding the merger of provincial administrative boundaries, according to Conclusion 127 of the Politburo, each locality assigned as an administrative center will take the lead in developing a project to reorganize administrative units. Accordingly, Can Tho City is expected to preside over and develop a project to reorganize administrative units, including Can Tho City with Soc Trang and Hau Giang provinces.

"Currently, the draft project to reorganize administrative units of the 3 localities is still sketchy, because all data and data on cadres, civil servants, commune-level administrative units, and units under the provincial People's Committee, the number of real estate and assets are not enough," said the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City added that last week, the Standing Committees of the 3 localities met and reached an agreement that on April 12, Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces will provide the above database to the Department of Home Affairs of Can Tho City to complete the project to reorganize provincial-level administrative units for Can Tho City.

For the commune level, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City said that among the 3 localities, the official figures have not been finalized and are all in the draft with many proposed options.
"Official tomorrow, fashion day, next week the entire administrative unit at the commune level. It is expected that from 15-17.4 will consult people in the area of 3 units for two projects to arrange administrative units at the commune and provincial level.
