On August 7, Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - and the working delegation visited and presented gifts to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vien - a former political prisoner of Con Dao - currently living in residential area No. 7, Con Dao special zone (Ho Chi Minh City).
Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc kindly visited the health and life of the family and expressed his gratitude for the contributions of Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vien and his family to the revolutionary cause of the nation.
"Examples like Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vien are a vivid symbol of the resilient revolutionary spirit, for the younger generation to learn and follow", Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc commented.
On this occasion, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also presented gifts to encourage Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vien's family; requested the local government to continue to monitor and promptly support the difficulties in daily life and care for Mr. Vien and his family.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vien was born in 1944 and was originally from Quang Nam, participating in the revolution since January5. During his tenure, Mr. Vien was injured and was captured by the enemy in 1968 In 1969, he was sent to Con Dao prison and was detained in many notorious prisons such as Prison 1, Prison 6, Zone B, Prison 7, Zone B.
After the liberation of Con Dao on May 1, 1975, Mr. Vien continued to work locally in many different roles until he retired in 2001. In recognition of his contributions, the Party and State awarded him the Second Class Anti-American Resistance Medal; commemorated the revolutionary soldier who was captured by the enemy with many certificates of merit and certificates of merit in his work and combat.
Sharing with the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vien said that he is always proud to have contributed to the cause of national liberation struggle. Currently, despite his old age and weak health, he and his family always teach their children to live well and be useful to society.
