The Deputy Prime Minister agreed with the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs on 4 consecutive New Year's Holidays in 2026 for civil servants and public employees.

The Government Office has just issued Document No. 12729/VPCP-KGVX dated December 25, 2025, announcing the opinion of Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra on the New Year holiday in 2026.

Considering the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs in document No. 12556/BNV-CVL dated December 24 on the proposal for a New Year holiday in 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra commented as follows:

Agree with the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs in the above document on the New Year holiday in 2026.

The Minister of Home Affairs informs administrative agencies, public service agencies, political organizations, socio-political organizations, enterprises and employees according to regulations.

Agencies and units arrange and assign on-duty departments according to regulations and work reasonably to resolve continuous work, ensuring service to the people.

Ministries, agencies and localities have specific and appropriate plans and measures to encourage units, enterprises, organizations and individuals to actively and proactively implement measures to develop production, business, economic and social activities, ensure supply and demand of goods and services, stabilize prices and markets, contribute to promoting economic growth, practice thrift, and combat waste in the time before, during and after the 2026 New Year holiday.

The Government Office informs the Ministry of Home Affairs and ministries, agencies and localities to know and implement.

Previously, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued Document No. 12511/BNV-CVL, dated December 24, 2025, asking for opinions from agencies on the 2026 New Year holiday plan.

The document clearly stated that, implementing the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra on the proposal for the New Year's holiday plan for 2026 in Official Dispatch No. 12642/VPCP-KGVX, dated December 23, 2025 of the Government Office, the Ministry of Home Affairs requested agencies to give opinions on the New Year's holiday plan for 2026 for cadres, civil servants, public employees and employees of state administrative agencies, public service units and employees of the enterprise sector who are not civil servants or public employees as follows:

First, for civil servants and public employees:

The Ministry of Home Affairs proposes that civil servants and public employees take a day off on January 1, 2026, according to regulations;

The Ministry of Home Affairs proposes to change from a working day on Friday (January 2, 2026) to a weekly Saturday (January 10, 2026).

Thus, on the occasion of New Year 2026, civil servants and public employees will have 4 consecutive days off from Thursday, January 1, 2026 to Sunday, January 4, 2026.

Of which, there are 2 consecutive days off due to swapping with working days and 2 days off every week.

For employees, the Ministry of Home Affairs encourages employers to apply the 2026 New Year's holiday to employees as prescribed for civil servants and public employees but ensure full implementation of employees' regimes according to the provisions of law; encourage more beneficial agreements for employees.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, arranging the exchange of normal working days and compensation for other days not only helps ensure that civil servants and public employees have a harmonious and complete holiday, but also helps stimulate tourism and social consumption, promoting economic growth.

At the same time, this swapping does not change the working time fund of civil servants and public employees.
