Reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper had an interview with Mr. Tran Tri Quang - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province.
Sir, after merging Dong Thap province with Tien Giang province to form the new Dong Thap province, what is the province's leading orientation?
- After the merger, the new Dong Thap has great advantages, with expanded development space and better development conditions. Previously, Dong Thap was famous for its strengths in agriculture, especially key industries such as seafood, fruit trees and rice. Dong Thap province identifies these as key products for farmers to develop the economy and get rich.
With new and larger development space, we are reviewing and reorienting the development strategy appropriately. In the agricultural sector, we will continue to promote traditional strengths, but at the same time, we will deploy production zoning scientifically. Areas with suitable natural conditions will be specially planned for cultivation and animal husbandry, ensuring the highest efficiency.
What is the specific plan of the province when conducting research and investment in this key field?
- One of the important focuses is improving product quality. In the coming time, Dong Thap's agricultural, rice, and seafood products will have to meet strict standards, especially in demanding markets. This not only helps increase export value but also enhances the brand of agricultural products of the province.
In addition to agriculture, the new Dong Thap also has a lot of room to develop industrial parks. The province will focus on promoting the agricultural processing industry, in order to fully exploit and increase the value of the entire production chain. We will minimize the export of raw products, which can easily lead to excess output and price decline, affecting farmers' income.
Regarding zoning, for land near the sea, affected by saltwater, we will have our own planning. These areas will be prioritized for developing saline and brackish water aquaculture, in accordance with natural conditions. At the same time, fruit trees affected by salinity will be re-planned in deep lands, ensuring productivity and quality.
Dong Thap province has a special advantage in that it has a 32km long coastline, located along the Tien River and has been planned to build a seaport that can receive ships with a capacity of up to 70,000 tons. We are urgently researching and investing in completing connecting transport infrastructure, especially main routes, to maximize the province's marine economic potential.
Strong investment in transport infrastructure will be a premise for industrial parks and clusters to be effectively planned and urban areas to be gradually renovated. I believe that, with high determination and synchronous solutions, we will remove all difficulties, making the new Dong Thap develop strongly and sustainably in the future.
Sincerely thank you!
