Share, support, help people affected by natural disasters
In September 2024, everyone felt their eyes sting when witnessing the fierce and tragic scenes in the flood-hit areas in the Northern localities.
Storm No. 3 and its circulation have caused heavy rain and floods in the localities it passed through. Although the storm has dissipated and the rain has stopped, people in many localities are still struggling to overcome the consequences.
Many families lost their homes and loved ones, etc. The immense and immeasurable losses in lives and property caused by natural disasters continue to cause numerous difficulties.
It can be seen that storm No. 3 and the floods after the storm have had serious consequences for many provinces and cities, including Hanoi. The economic damage to the capital is estimated at nearly 2,300 billion VND. The city has directed departments, branches, sectors, and localities to focus on supporting people to overcome the consequences of storms and floods and soon stabilize their lives.
Hanoi proactively implemented comprehensive measures throughout the entire course of Storm No. 3, from preparation to recovery, to support and assist those affected by the disaster.
In the spirit of supporting provinces affected by storms and floods, each official, civil servant and employee of the Office of the National Assembly Delegation and the Hanoi People's Council donated at least 1 day's salary. All donations were counted and transferred to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi to help overcome the consequences of storms and floods.
Immediately after storm No. 3 made landfall in the northern provinces (September 7, 2024), including Hanoi, on September 9, 2024, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Bui Thi Minh Hoai, on behalf of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, concluded the task of supporting the recovery of the consequences of storm No. 3; in which, she directed the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi to coordinate with the City People's Committee to immediately deploy emergency support for provinces and cities affected by natural disasters.
On September 10, 2024, responding to the call of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, at the launching ceremony to support people affected by storm No. 3, Hanoi donated 61 billion VND to support people in flood-hit areas to quickly stabilize their lives.
In particular, in responding to the call for support for provinces affected by storms and floods by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi, localities, agencies, units and people of the capital enthusiastically shared their kindness, expressed their solidarity with compatriots in times of trouble, and joined hands and hearts with the people of the whole country to promptly help people affected by natural disasters.
Unity, mutual support, sharing in times of danger
Storm No. 3 hit, leaving behind aftershocks, loss, and pain in terms of people and property for our country, but also leaving behind touching stories of solidarity, compassion, and mutual support in times of difficulty and adversity.
National Assembly delegates said that these are beautiful traditional cultural values that have long existed in our nation and are continuing to be strongly promoted in contemporary society.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Viet Nga - Member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education, Deputy Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Hai Duong province - emphasized that our solidarity, love and mutual support rise more than ever when there are storms and floods.
From there, it creates a community strength, overcomes natural disasters, overcomes difficult circumstances, and most importantly, encourages people's spirit to overcome all difficulties and dangers.
According to the delegate, compassion, and solidarity are noble traditional cultural values that need to be preserved and promoted in today's society. Activities to support people in flood-hit areas are still being actively and effectively implemented by the entire city's political system and the people, with the determination to leave no one behind.
More meaningfully, with the sentiment of "mutual love and affection" and the spirit of "Hanoi for the whole country, with the whole country", the city's authorities at all levels have taken practical actions towards the people in the flood-hit areas of the North.
Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son, Standing Member of the National Assembly's Committee for Culture and Education, and National Assembly Delegate of Hanoi City, said that storm No. 3 is one of the biggest disasters recently, once again testing the spirit and will of the Vietnamese people.
"When facing the challenge of storm No. 3, I found that traditional cultural values of the Vietnamese people such as compassion and solidarity were demonstrated more clearly and strongly" - Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Hoai Son emphasized.
Compassion - a core value in Vietnamese culture - has been demonstrated through concrete actions such as cars driving very slowly to block the wind, protect motorbikes, and help pedestrians to be safer; hotels and apartments open their doors for free to those in need of shelter...
These actions are not only beautiful images, but also symbols of the warm and profound humanity in the hearts of the Vietnamese people, demonstrating the spirit of "helping each other".
According to delegates, besides material support, spiritual encouragement also plays an important role.
Faced with the impact of storm No. 3, the Hanoi People's Committee decided to support districts, towns and cities (3 times) with a total budget of 188.5 billion VND and other units with 24.787 billion VND.
The Hanoi Fatherland Front Committee has received registrations and donated 177.646 billion VND; has supported 101.84 billion VND (supporting the people of the capital 15.9 billion VND, supporting the damaged provinces 85.94 billion VND) and many necessities for people affected by storms and floods.
