The Deputy Prime Minister requested to study and plan Con Dao airport, submit to the Prime Minister in the second quarter of 2025.

The Government Office has just issued Document No. 248/VPCP-CN dated January 9, 2025 conveying the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha on the investment plan for Con Dao Airport (Con Dao airport).

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha agreed with the report and proposal of the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province in Official Dispatch No. 18960/UBND-VP dated December 20, 2024 on the investment plan for Con Dao Airport (project).

The Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Transport and the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province to study and develop the Con Dao Airport Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, and carry out steps in accordance with legal regulations, and submit it to the Prime Minister in the second quarter of 2025.

In Official Dispatch No. 18960/UBND-VP dated December 20, 2024, the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province proposed to study the planning and investment plan to upgrade and expand Con Dao Airport to ensure it meets international airport standards under the PPP method.

Carry out overall investment in the entire project, including airport facilities, flight operations assurance facilities, essential civil aviation facilities, and aviation service facilities, to be able to receive large, wide-body aircraft such as A320, A321, Airbus A350, and Boeing 787.

According to the Master Plan for the development of the national airport system for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, Con Dao Airport is planned for the period up to 2030 with a capacity of about 2 million passengers/year, and a vision to 2050 with a capacity of about 3 million passengers/year.

Currently, the runway and taxiway at Con Dao airport have degraded and have poor load-bearing capacity, due to being built since 2004. The 30m wide runway does not meet the standards for operating code C aircraft, and can only accommodate aircraft such as the ATR72 and equivalent (Embraer E190/E195 with reduced load).
