On the morning of April 25, at the 21st session, the 18th term People's Council of Quang Binh province unanimously approved a Resolution on the policy of arranging commune-level administrative units and merging Quang Binh province with Quang Tri province into a new administrative unit.
According to the Project submitted at the meeting, Quang Binh province will have 41 commune-level administrative units after the arrangement, including 36 communes and 5 wards. In which, Dong Hoi city is reorganized into 3 wards: Dong Hoi ward, Dong Thuan ward and Dong Son ward. Ba Don town has 4 commune-level administrative units, including Ba Don ward, Bac Gianh ward, Nam Gianh commune and Nam Ba Don commune.
A notable point is that Quang Binh province does not use the commune name in the order number, but prioritizes the selection of names associated with historical - cultural factors, traditional landmarks such as Dong Hoi ward, Le Thuy commune, Quang Trach commune, Minh Hoa commune, Tuyen Hoa commune, Phong Nha commune, Quang Ninh commune ... However, no commune -level units named Quang Binh commune.
Previously, Quang Binh province directed the organization to widely collect voters' opinions. The results show that 143/144 commune-level administrative units have a voter approval rate of 50% or more, of which 132 units have a consensus rate of over 90%. The process of collecting opinions is carried out publicly, democratically, in accordance with legal regulations and without any complaints or denunciations.
At the session, 100% of the Provincial People's Council delegates also unanimously approved the policy of merging the entire natural area and population of Quang Binh province with Quang Tri province to form a new administrative unit, named Quang Tri province.
After the arrangement, Quang Tri province will have a natural area of 12,699km2 and a population of more than 1.845 million people. The provincial administrative - political center is located at the current location of Quang Binh province.
The approval of important resolutions by the People's Council of Quang Binh province at this session is considered a strategic step, demonstrating high political determination, towards building a streamlined, effective - efficient government apparatus, while expanding development space, maximizing the potential of the North Central region in the coming period.
