Hungary is always a trusted friend and supports Vietnam in multilateral forums

On the afternoon of May 28 at the National Assembly House, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Hungarian President Sulyok Tamas.

The two leaders expressed their satisfaction with the extremely positive development in Vietnam - Hungary relations, especially in politics - diplomacy, including the National Assembly channel; highly appreciated the dynamic development in cooperation between the two National Assemblies in recent times with the two sides regularly exchanging delegations to the National Assembly and between Committees and Friendship groups of Parliamentarians; closely coordinating at inter-regional and international parliamentary forums, especially IPU.

National Assembly Chairwoman Tran Thanh Man assessed the cooperation of the two dynamic developed countries over the past time, especially the economy with two -way trade turnover in 2024 reaching nearly 1 billion USD. However, these figures are not commensurate with the potential of the two countries. The two sides need to take advantage and promote the effective cooperation mechanisms, take advantage of the advantages from the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) to promote trade growth as well as bilateral investment in the coming time.

The Chairman of the National Assembly highly appreciated Hungary as one of the first EU countries to approve the Vietnam -EU investment protection agreement (EVIPA); Thanks and suggested Hungary continue to support the promotion of the National Assembly of the remaining EU member countries to soon approve the Agreement. The Hungarian President affirmed his support and will continue to promote the European Commission (EC) soon to remove the IUU yellow card for Vietnam's export seafood.

The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fields of semiconductors, nuclear energy, smart agriculture, pharmaceuticals, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, defense industry, water management, environment, climate change response, etc.; support each other in participating in supply chains and responding to global challenges.

Agreeing with the proposals of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, President Sulyok Tamas emphasized that Hungary is always a trusted and supportive friend in Vietnam at multilateral forums, especially in the EU; affirming that Hungary supported Vietnam -EU relations; agreed to continue strengthening cooperation and exchange between the leaders of the two National Assembly as well as the specialized committees, promoting the role of a bridge of the friendship group of the two countries to strengthen cooperation in developing laws and policies ...

The Chairman of the National Assembly affirmed that in the context of the world there are complicated developments, Vietnam is consistent with independent, autonomous, peaceful, cooperative, multilateral, diversified, friendly, reliable partners, responsible members of the international community; welcoming the Vietnam National Assembly Chairman's visit to Vietnam in October 2025; Expressing the belief that the visit will open a new program of cooperation in the relationship between the two National Assembly.

The National Assembly Chairman suggested that the two countries' National Assemblies increase youth parliamentary exchanges, organize regular bilateral parliamentary forums, and cooperate in building legal frameworks to support digital transformation and environmental protection; share experiences in monitoring the implementation of public policies, especially in areas such as water resource management and climate change response, where Hungary has strengths.
