New era, new requirements for foreign affairs

Thanh Hà |

From August 1 to 7, the 33rd Diplomatic Conference and the 22nd National Foreign Affairs Conference will take place in Hanoi with the theme: "Promoting the pioneering role and performing the key and regular tasks of Vietnam's foreign affairs in the new era".

On the occasion of the conference, Politburo Member, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung wrote an article "Building a clean and strong Foreign Affairs Party Committee to contribute to the successful implementation of key and regular tasks of foreign affairs in the new era" which emphasized that the 33rd Diplomatic Conference "has special significance for the diplomatic sector, being the first diplomatic conference in the new era - the era of rising and prosperous development of the nation".

In the article, Politburo Member, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung said that the organization and deployment of foreign affairs work will be thoroughly grasped in the new spirit of "executive discipline must become an action principle". At all Party organizations, units at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representative agencies abroad, that work will continue to strongly shift from "management based on administrative orders" to "management based on results"; from evaluating "by formal reports" to evaluating by specific products, output results, progress of work processing, people's trust, including evaluation based on KPI from July 2026, while promoting digital transformation and application of artificial intelligence.

The 33rd Diplomatic Conference is a conference for all officials and party members in the diplomatic sector to thoroughly grasp and implement the Party's new strategic guidelines and policies, thoroughly grasp and promote the new mindset and spirit that is urging the entire political system to drastically implement the Resolution of the XIV Congress. That mindset will motivate and urge the entire Party Committee to innovate and improve Party building work in the diplomatic sector, creating a foundation for victory in implementing foreign policy in the new era, enhancing Vietnam's contribution to global politics, international economy, and human civilization" - Minister Le Hoai Trung affirmed.

In the article "Unifying awareness, innovating thinking, contributing to the implementation of national development goals" on the occasion of the conference, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang emphasized that the new development requirements of the country require diplomatic work serving development to strongly shift "from opening the way to creating development", "from connecting opportunities to connecting strategic resources", "from signing commitments to organizing implementation and verifying effectiveness".

That is also the process of raising the level of thinking, innovating approaches, strongly shifting from reactionary thinking to constructive thinking, shifting from accompanying to pioneering, from reactionary to proactive, from mainly protecting development space to contributing to building national development capacity" - Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang shared.

According to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, "Creating - Connecting - Verifying" needs to become a consistent motto in organization and implementation. Creating is proactively proposing new areas, frameworks and spaces for cooperation, identifying the right partners, the right fields, and the right strategic projects. Connecting is linking domestic needs with international markets, capital, technology, knowledge and human resources; linking the Central Government with localities, the State with businesses, and domestically with the Vietnamese community abroad. Verification is measuring contributions by specific results: Markets are opened, projects are implemented, technology is received, bottlenecks are removed, and the capacity of businesses, localities and the entire economy is improved.

The 33rd Diplomatic Conference is a milestone for the entire sector to strongly shift from awareness to action, from policy to program, from framework to result. Each foreign relationship needs to open up an additional space for cooperation; each agreement needs to be concretized into programs, projects, and products; each diplomatic activity needs to create more practical value for the country, people and businesses" - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang said.
