Speaking at the conference "Meeting Japan in Da Nang: Promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan", Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City - said that from July 1, 2025, the new Da Nang City has been established on the basis of merging the old Da Nang City and Quang Nam Province.
With an area of nearly 12,000 km2, Da Nang City is currently the largest centrally-governed city in the country.
On that platform, Da Nang is shaping a modern and sustainable development ecosystem, focusing on strategic institutions such as the Free Trade Zone, International Financial Center, High-Tech Zone, Open Economic Zone and Concentrated IT Zones.
Da Nang City has a strategic location, located on the East-West economic corridor, directly connecting with the Central Highlands, Laos and countries in the Mekong sub-region, along with a synchronous transport infrastructure system including Lien Chieu, Tien Sa, Ky Ha deep-water ports, Da Nang international airport, Chu Lai international airport.
This structure not only helps Da Nang maintain a central role in the supply chain, regional linkages, and regional linkages, but also increases attraction for the world's leading investors, especially Japanese investors.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Da Nang currently owns a unique cultural value system, which is the foundation for developing a high-quality tourism industry.
Notable among them are the 3 world cultural heritages such as Hoi An Ancient Town, My Son Sanctuary and the Gho Gho bia system at Ngu Hanh Son scenic spot, creating a prominent comparison advantage for the city on the regional and international tourism map.

On a bilateral level, Da Nang City has established friendly relations and implemented cooperation programs in more than 22 provinces and cities of Japan.
In which, Da Nang signed a memorandum of understanding to establish official friendship and cooperation with 6 cities including Kawasaki, Sakai, Yokohama, Kisarazu, Nagasaki and Kinokawa.
Regarding economic cooperation, according to Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Japan is the leading country in terms of registered investment capital in the city with more than 1.14 billion USD of 261 projects.
In addition, Japan is the country with the highest FDI capital among foreign investors in Da Nang High-Tech Park and Industrial Parks with 49 investment projects with a total investment capital of 695.9 million USD.
Notably, in 2024, the number of Japanese visitors to Da Nang increased nearly 3 times compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 179.2 thousand. These positive figures show great potential for Da Nang - Japan to continue promoting cooperation and tourism development in the coming time.
