Vietnamese leaders send congratulatory message to Lao leaders

Vietnamese leaders congratulated the new Lao leaders who were trusted to be elected to key leadership positions.

On March 23, 2026, on the occasion of the first session of the 10th National Assembly of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, was elected as President; Mr. Sonexay Siphandone as Prime Minister; Mr. Saysomphone Phomvihane as National Assembly Chairman; and Mr. Viengthong Siphandone as Vice President; General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Politburo member, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan sent congratulatory messages to senior leaders of Laos.

In the telegrams, Vietnamese leaders warmly congratulated the new leaders of Laos who were trusted by the Lao National Assembly to be elected to key leadership positions; and affirmed that this is a clear expression of the National Assembly and people of Laos' belief and appreciation for their capacity, prestige as well as important contributions to the revolutionary cause and socio-economic development of Laos.

Vietnamese leaders expressed their belief that the new leadership will lead the State and fraternal Lao people to successfully implement the Resolution of the 12th Party Congress and the 5th Five-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan for the period 2026 - 2030; build a peaceful, independent, democratic, unified and prosperous Laos, with an increasingly enhanced position in the region and on the international stage; and expressed their pleasure at the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, and strategic linkage between Vietnam and Laos in the past time being constantly nurtured, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries, actively contributing to peace, stability and prosperous development of the region.

Vietnamese leaders affirmed that the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic linkage between Vietnam and Laos are invaluable common assets nurtured by generations of leaders and peoples of the two countries; and emphasized that they will continue to closely coordinate with Lao leaders to constantly consolidate and develop the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos, thereby contributing to peace, stability and prosperity of the region and the world.

On the same day, Comrade Le Hoai Trung, Member of the Politburo, Minister of Foreign Affairs sent a congratulatory message to Comrade Thongsavan Phomvihane on the occasion of being elected by the Lao 10th National Assembly to hold the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos.

In the telegram, Comrade Le Hoai Trung expressed his belief that in his new position, Comrade Thongsavan Phomvihane will effectively implement the foreign policy of peace, independence, friendship and cooperation for development; and at the same time continue to pay attention, direct and create favorable conditions for relations between the two countries in general, and between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs in particular, to become increasingly substantive and effective, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, contributing to peace, stability and development in the region and in the world.
