In the past time, closely following the instructions of the Central Government, Lao Cai province has focused on leading and directing the serious implementation of this task.

Lao Cai and Yen Bai have established Steering Committees of the two provinces; the Standing Committees of the Provincial Party Committees of the two provinces have organized working sessions; agencies and units between the two localities actively coordinate in developing a merger project.

The two provinces have also organized a public consultation, in which, in Lao Cai, the rate of people agreeing with the policy of merging provinces reached nearly 99%; the commune level reached over 98%.

The agencies of the two provinces have basically completed the merger project and achieved high consensus.

Organizing a conference of the Provincial Party Committee to approve the project to reorganize and merge provincial and commune-level administrative units is the basis for implementing the next steps, including submitting it to the Lao Cai Provincial People's Council meeting.
