On July 8, General Phan Van Giang - Member of the Politburo, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense - worked with the Standing Committee of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee on the socio-economic development situation, national defense, and security in the first 6 months of the year and tasks for the last 6 months of 2026.
At the working session, leaders of Nghe An province reported that in the first 6 months of 2026, the province's GRDP growth rate is estimated at 9.65%, ranking 12th in the country and 2nd in the North Central region; budget revenue reached 17,926 billion VND, equal to 76.8% of the estimate, an increase of 28.8% compared to the same period.
Investment attraction work achieved outstanding results, total newly granted and additional investment capital reached more than 76. 627 billion VND, 5.1 times higher than the same period in 2025. FDI capital attraction reached 2.41 billion USD, ranking 5th in the country.
Regarding national defense and security, Nghe An strictly maintains combat readiness duty, disaster prevention and control duty, search and rescue; coordinates to firmly grasp the situation of borders, sea routes and key areas. The provincial armed forces have mobilized nearly 9,000 turns of officers, soldiers, and militia to participate in protecting important holidays and political events, rescue and forest fire prevention.

Concluding the working session, General Phan Van Giang acknowledged and highly appreciated the results Nghe An has achieved in socio-economic development, improving people's lives, especially military and national defense tasks.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense requested Nghe An to especially attach importance to the work of building and rectifying the Party and the political system to be clean and strong; pay attention to remote and isolated areas, key to national defense and security, and newly arranged and adjusted areas.
General Phan Van Giang requested the province to strengthen the all-people national defense potential associated with a solid people's security posture; build a comprehensively strong provincial armed force, maintain high combat readiness, and not be passive or surprised in any situation.

He also noted that Nghe An must closely combine socio-economic development with strengthening national defense and security; effectively implement foreign affairs, especially with Laos, and build a border area of peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development.
Towards the 80th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day, General Phan Van Giang requested the province to drastically deploy a 500-day and night campaign to promote the search, collection and DNA testing to identify martyrs' remains; support building houses for families who are children of resistance activists infected with chemical toxins.
In his response speech, Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Khac Than affirmed that the province seriously receives the directions of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of National Defense; and continues to thoroughly grasp the view that economic development must be closely linked to strengthening national defense and security.
