In the afternoon of September 14, King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua of the Kingdom of Thailand and Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana arrived in Hanoi, beginning a state visit to Vietnam, from September 14 to September 16, 2026, at the invitation of General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife.
Welcoming the delegation at Noi Bai International Airport were Central Party Committee members: Chairman of the Presidential Office Le Khanh Hai; Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Vu Dai Thang. Along with comrades: Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Hoang Giang; Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung.
Answering an interview with VNA before the visit, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung said that this State visit of the King and Queen of Thailand to Vietnam is of particular importance, a new historical milestone in the good friendly cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Thailand in the past 50 years.
Since officially establishing diplomatic relations in 1976, this is the first time the King and Queen of Thailand have made a state visit to Vietnam. For King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida, this is also the first time the two have visited Vietnam as King and Queen of Thailand.
Previously, King Maha Vajiralongkorn visited Vietnam in 1992 and 1997 as Crown Prince. Therefore, this visit is not only of political significance at this time but also a continuation of the friendship and attachment between the Royal Family, Government and people of Thailand and the Government and people of Vietnam.
In particular, the visit takes place at the time when the two countries celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (August 6, 1976 - August 6, 2026), in the context that relations between the two countries have been upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership a year earlier.
The new relationship framework has created a foundation and motivation for the two sides to bring cooperation deeper, more substantive and effective.
