King of Thailand and Queen are about to pay a state visit to Vietnam

The King of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Queen will pay a state visit to Vietnam from September 14-16, 2026.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 10, at the invitation of the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam and his wife, King of the Kingdom of Thailand Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Queen will pay a state visit to Vietnam from September 14-16, 2026.

Vietnam - Thailand officially upgraded relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership on May 16, 2025; friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries continue to be strengthened, with the regular maintenance of high-level exchanges and contacts.

The two countries maintain the cooperation mechanism of the Joint Committee on Bilateral Cooperation at the Foreign Ministers' level (most recently the 5th held on April 4, 2024) and Political Consultations at the Deputy Foreign Ministers' level (most recently the 10th on September 9, 2024).

Thailand is currently Vietnam's largest trading partner in ASEAN. In 2025, total two-way trade turnover reached 22.1 billion USD, up 9% compared to 2024; of which exports reached 8.8 billion USD, up 12.7%; imports reached 13.3 billion USD, up 6.7%. In the first 7 months of 2026, total two-way trade turnover reached more than 15.03 billion USD, up 22% compared to the same period in 2025; of which exports reached more than 6.52 billion USD (up 34%); imports reached more than 9.51 billion USD (up 27%).

Regarding investment, Thailand currently has 813 valid investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of more than 15.4 billion USD, ranking 8th/153 countries with investment in Vietnam and 2nd among ASEAN countries with investment in Vietnam (after Singapore).

Thai investors mainly invest in the fields of processing and manufacturing industry; production and distribution of electricity, gas, water, air conditioning; real estate business, wholesale and retail. Vietnam has 23 valid investment projects in Thailand, with a total registered capital of nearly 55.5 million USD. The projects mainly in the fields of commerce, services; processing and manufacturing technology; real estate business.
