On the morning of June 30, Dong Thap province solemnly held a ceremony to announce the Resolution and Decision of the Central and local governments on merging provincial and commune-level administrative units, ending the operation of district-level administrative units, establishing a Party organization, appointing Party committees, People's Councils, People's Committees, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of provinces, communes, and wards.

According to the Resolution of the National Assembly, the entire natural area and population of Tien Giang province and Dong Thap province will be merged into a new province called Dong Thap province, with the administrative center located in My Tho. After the arrangement, Dong Thap province has a natural area of 5,938.64 km2, a population of more than 4.37 million people with 102 commune-level administrative units, including 82 communes and 20 wards.
Decision No. 314-QD/TW, dated June 18, 2025 of the Politburo on the establishment of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee; Decision 2153-QDNS/TW, dated June 23, 2025 of the Politburo on the appointment of the Executive Committee, Standing Committee, Secretary, Deputy Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee for the 2020 - 2025 term.
According to this decision, the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee has 52 members, the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee has 16 members. Mr. Le Quoc Phong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the XV National Assembly Delegation of Dong Thap province (old) was appointed to hold the position of Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee for the 2020 - 2025 term, Head of the XIV National Assembly Delegation of Dong Thap province (new).
At the same time, appointing the (new) Deputy Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee for the 2020 - 2025 term including: Nguyen Hai Tram - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Tien Giang Provincial Party Committee to hold the position of Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Chau Thi My Phuong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairwoman of the People's Council of Tien Giang province for the 2021 - 2026 term; Tran Tri Quang - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province (old) for the 2021 - 2026 term; Phan Van Thang - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Dong Thap province (old).
The decision of the Secretariat appoints the Inspection Committee, Chairman, and Deputy Chairmen of the Inspection Committee of Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee. The new Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Committee has members appointed by Mr. Phan Van Hop as Chairman of the Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Committee for the 2020 - 2025 term; Deputy Chairmen include: Nguyen Thi Lan, Doan Ngoc Tien, Le Thi Thanh Ha, Tran Dinh Phuc.
Resolution No. 1739/NQ-UBTVQH15, dated June 24, 2025 of the National Assembly Standing Committee appoints Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Heads of Committees of the People's Council of Dong Thap province (new) for the 2021 - 2026 term. Appointed Ms. Chau Thi My Phuong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee to hold the position of Chairwoman of the People's Council of Dong Thap province for the 2021 - 2026 term. Appointing 2 Vice Chairmen of the People's Council of Dong Thap province for the 2021 - 2026 term: Pham Van Chuan - Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee and Tran Thanh Nguyen - Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee.
Resolution 1715/ NQ-UBTVQH15 of the National Assembly Standing Committee appoints the National Assembly Delegation of Dong Thap province to consist of 15 members, led by Mr. Le Quoc Phong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee to hold the position of Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Dong Thap province; Ta Minh Tam to hold the position of Deputy Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Dong Thap province.
Decision No. 1263/QD-TTg, dated June 24, 2025 of the Prime Minister appointed Comrade Tran Tri Quang - Deputy Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee (new) for the 2020 - 2025 term to hold the position of Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province (new) for the 2021 - 2026 term.
Decision No. 1308/QD-TTg dated June 24, 2025 of the Prime Minister appoints the Vice Chairmen of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province (new) for the 2021 - 2026 term, including: Tran Van Dung - Member of the Standing Committee of the Tien Giang Provincial Party Committee for the 2020 - 2025 term, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tien Giang province for the 2021 - 2026 term; Huynh Minh Tuan - Member of the Standing Committee of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee (old) for the 2020 - 2025 term, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province (old) for the 2021 - 2026 term; Nguyen Thanh Dieu - Member of the Executive Committee of the Tien Giang Provincial Party Committee for the 2020 - 2025 term, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tien Giang province for the 2021 - 2026 term.
The decision of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to establish the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Thap province from July 1, 2025 and appoint Mr. Phan Van Thang - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee to hold the position of Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee.
At the announcement ceremony, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province Tran Tri Quang also announced the Resolutions and Decisions of the Provincial Party Committee on the termination of the activities of the Party Committees of districts, towns and cities; Decision of the Provincial Party Committee on the establishment of 102 Party Committees of communes and wards directly under the Provincial Party Committee; Decision on appointing personnel for the Executive Committee, Standing Committee, Secretaries and Deputy Secretaries; Decision on appointing the Inspection Committee, Chairman of the Inspection Committee; Decision on appointing Chairman, Vice Chairman, Head of the People's Council; Decision on appointing Chairman and Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of communes and wards; Decision of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee on the establishment of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of 102 communes and wards.
