On August 18, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son attended the event to officially name the PV DRILLING VIII self-elevated drilling rig, organized by Petroleum Drilling and Drilling Services Joint Stock Corporation (PV Drilling) in Rach Dua ward, Ho Chi Minh City.

According to PV Drilling, the naming ceremony is an event marking the official naming of PV DRILLING VIII self-elevating drilling rig and is ready to go into operation. Contributing to expanding PV Drilling's marine drilling rig team to 6 rigs, meeting the growing market share of exploration and development drilling projects in the Vietnamese market and Southeast Asia.
PV DRILLING VIII drilling rig was newly built in 2007 according to the KFELS Class B Mode V design in Singapore; upgraded to the same generation of newly built self- propelled drilling rigs since 2016; equipped with leading advanced technologies; operating at a maximum water depth of 400 feet and a maximum drilling depth of 30,000 feet (equivalent to the height of Mount Everest, over 8,500m).
"This is the first time a project to restart and upgrade self-elevating drilling rigs has been implemented entirely domestically, led by a team of Vietnamese engineers and experts. This success not only saves costs and shortens time compared to hiring foreign contractors, but also affirms the ability to master technology and create a premise for similar projects in the future," said Mr. Nguyen Xuan Cuong - General Director of PV Drilling.
On this occasion, PV Drilling also held a ceremony to place a signboard to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day on September 2.
