Vietnam - Bangladesh relations continue to develop steadily with high political trust

On September 5, General Secretary and President To Lam received the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Vietnam Mohammad Lutfor Rahman to say goodbye at the end of his term of office.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the reception, General Secretary and President To Lam congratulated Ambassador Lutfor Rahman on successfully completing his term in Vietnam, highly appreciating the Ambassador's important contributions in promoting the Vietnam - Bangladesh friendship and cooperation to become deeper, more effective and bring practical benefits to the people of the two countries.

General Secretary and President To Lam once again congratulated Bangladesh on successfully organizing the general election in February 2026 and the new Presidential election in August 2026, thereby consolidating leadership positions and the new Government; expressed his belief that under the leadership of the new Government, Bangladesh will maintain stability and gradually bring the country to prosperous development.

General Secretary and President To Lam said that after more than 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations, Vietnam - Bangladesh relations continue to develop steadily with high political trust, regularly supporting each other at regional and international forums.

General Secretary and President To Lam proposed that in the coming time, the two countries need to strengthen high-level and all-level delegation exchanges, maintain bilateral dialogue mechanisms; further promote economic and trade cooperation based on the potentials and strengths of the two economies, towards negotiating and signing cooperation agreements in the fields of trade and investment, striving to increase two-way trade turnover to 2 billion USD; and at the same time expand cooperation in many aspects. Emphasizing the importance of connectivity for trade and people-to-people exchanges, General Secretary and President To Lam proposed that the two sides expand transport infrastructure connections between Vietnam and Bangladesh in the coming time.

The Ambassador thanked General Secretary and President To Lam for taking the time to receive, as well as the feelings, concern and support of the General Secretary and President for the Ambassador personally, the Government, the people of Bangladesh and Vietnam - Bangladesh relations in general. The Ambassador once again congratulated and conveyed the congratulations of the Government of Bangladesh to the General Secretary and President, as well as the impressive achievements that Vietnam has achieved in socio-economic development.

The Ambassador emphasized that Vietnam and Bangladesh are two close countries, with many common grounds both from a bilateral perspective and at regional and international forums; affirmed that no matter what position they are in, they are always interested and will continue to make efforts to nurture the relationship between the two countries to develop more and more. The Ambassador agreed to coordinate in promoting the arrangement of high-level visits and bilateral cooperation mechanisms, connecting relevant agencies to exchange practical contents on economic, trade, cultural, tourism, education - training, labor cooperation, and signing new cooperation agreements.

The Ambassador also emphasized Bangladesh's desire to further strengthen relations with ASEAN, become an ASEAN Dialogue Partner and promote RCEP accession, hoping for Vietnam's support. The Ambassador affirmed that Bangladesh always shares ASEAN and Vietnam's views on regional issues, wishing to contribute to building a region of peace, stability, security and maritime safety, promoting international law, and the United Nations Charter.

On this occasion, Ambassador Lutfor Rahman also respectfully sent the invitation of the Government of Bangladesh to the General Secretary and President to arrange to visit Bangladesh soon in the near future.
