Affirming the merger and consolidation of administrative units to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of management, expand development space and create motivation to connect the Mekong Delta with the Southeast key economic region, especially national defense work, the General emphasized that both localities are known as regions, provinces with a tradition of agricultural development, considered as rice granaries, fruit granaries, and aquaculture granaries of the country - the destination of many domestic and foreign investors. Therefore, the merger of provinces is a condition for the two localities to resonate with each other to create outstanding values, rise up, develop strongly, quickly, comprehensively, sustainably in the new historical period... From there, there are many conditions to improve people's lives, enhance competitive position, contribute to creating a new look for a continental Delta region, following the orientation of Dong Thap Green - Smart - Creative - Preserving cultural identity". Thereby, aiming for a rich and prosperous locality, in the leading group of economic and cultural development, gradually narrowing the income gap, improving the quality of life of the people.
In the new development period, the province with the goal of achieving double-digit GRDP growth, high per capita income; increasingly ensuring better social security policies and regimes, improving the quality of education and healthcare, promoting experience from building 2 global studying cities recognized by UNESCO from the old Dong Thap province to the new Dong Thap province. Improve the quality of education, attract talent, encourage the spirit of entrepreneurship - creativity, aiming to be the center of entrepreneurship in the Mekong Delta.
The General especially emphasized the event that before the merger, the two provinces of Tien Giang and Dong Thap had completed the task of a new rural province and considered this an important premise for Dong Thap province today to maintain new rural results, aiming to build an advanced new rural province.
