At the invitation of Politburo Member, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Chile Francisco Perez Mackenna paid an official visit to Vietnam from August 23 - 25, 2026.
Welcoming Minister Mackenna's visit to Vietnam, Minister Le Hoai Trung highly appreciated Minister Mackenna's official visit to Vietnam, showing the determination of the Chilean Government in promoting the Vietnam-Chile Comprehensive Partnership, in the year the two countries celebrate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations (March 25, 1971 - March 25, 2026).
Minister Le Hoai Trung affirmed that Vietnam always values strengthening relations with Chile, the first country in South America to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam (March 25, 1971), and also Vietnam's leading important partner in Latin America.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung assessed that the Vietnam - Chile Comprehensive Partnership has developed positively in recent times, notably in the field of economy and trade. Chile is the 3rd largest export market of Vietnam in Latin America and Vietnam is Chile's largest trading partner in ASEAN.
Minister Le Hoai Trung wished that the two sides would continue to further deepen political relations, strengthen trust and expand practical cooperation in areas of mutual concern in the spirit of mutual benefit, mutual development, complementarity and mutual support in the new context.
In that spirit, Minister Le Hoai Trung requested the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs to continue to promote the role of coordinating common relations between the two countries on important issues such as strengthening delegation exchanges at all levels, especially high-level delegations; strengthening relations between the two National Assemblies, political parties and socio-political organizations of the two countries, considering this as a solid foundation for consolidating and developing bilateral relations; coordinating the organization of the VIII Political Consultation Session between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs and the 6th Session of the Council on Free Trade.
The two sides also agreed to promote business connections, expand cooperation and investment in fields with much room such as mining, green transformation, digital economy, finance, banking, culture, education, science and technology, national defense and security; promote new cooperation agreements to create a legal framework for strengthening the Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries.
Chilean Foreign Minister Mackenna affirmed that the Chilean Government always values and wishes to strengthen relations with Vietnam in the overall policy for the Asia-Pacific region, especially in the context that Vietnam and Chile have signed a bilateral Free Trade Agreement and are both members of APEC and the CPTPP Agreement, with many similarities in many fields.
Minister Mackenna agreed with the proposals of the Vietnamese side; affirmed that the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to closely coordinate with the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to contribute to making Vietnam-Chile relations more substantive and effective in the coming time.
The Chilean Foreign Minister wished the two sides to strengthen economic, trade, and investment relations, especially in the context of the current volatile situation; open markets for each other's agricultural products; expand cooperation in technology, renewable energy, and essential strategic minerals.
Exchanging views on international and regional issues of common concern, the two Ministers agreed to strengthen cooperation at international organizations and multilateral forums, especially the United Nations.
