On August 7, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement stating that, at the invitation of President of the DPRK Lee Jae Myung and his wife, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam and his wife, along with the high-ranking delegation of Vietnam, will visit the DPRK from August 10-13, 2025.
The visit took place in the context that Vietnam and South Korea maintain good relations through all channels of the Party, Government, and National Assembly. High-level exchanges continue to be maintained in many flexible forms, thereby constantly strengthening political trust.
Regarding economic cooperation, Korea continues to be the number 1 investment partner; the number 2 tourist supply market; the number 2 ODA supply country; the number 3 trade partner; the number 3 labor receiving market of Vietnam. In 2024, bilateral turnover will reach 81.5 billion USD, an increase of 7.3% over the previous year.
Previously, on July 29, at the Party Central Committee headquarters, General Secretary To Lam received Mr. Park Chang Dal, Special Envoy of President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung.
Special Envoy Park Chang Dal emphasized that President Lee Jae Myung always considers Vietnam a leading important partner in implementing foreign policies in the region; hopes that the two sides will further enhance high-level exchanges and contacts; promote economic, trade and investment cooperation for substantial, effective and sustainable development.
General Secretary To Lam expressed his high agreement with the opinions of Special Envoy Park Chang Dal; affirmed the consistent policy of the Party and State of Vietnam to always attach importance to and wish to develop cooperative relations with Korea to a new, substantial, effective and long-term height; suggested that the two sides promote comprehensive, substantial and effective bilateral cooperation on the basis of political trust between the two countries and the close relationship between businesses, localities and people of the two countries.
