According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on September 23 (Vietnam time), General Secretary and President To Lam met with Ghanaian President John Mahama, Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of the Vatican, Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Chairman of the 81st United Nations General Assembly Khalilur Rahman.
Meeting with Chairman of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly Khalilur Rahman, General Secretary and President To Lam highly appreciated the theme of this session, which accurately reflects the urgent requirement to bring specific, fair and practical results to all nations and people.
The General Secretary and President said that Vietnam wishes to transform its internal strength and experience into more practical commitments and contributions to peace, cooperation and sustainable development of the region and the world.
General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that Vietnam is ready to closely coordinate and actively contribute to the priorities and initiatives of the President of the United Nations General Assembly to realize the goals.
Vietnam has participated in co-coordinating the negotiation processes of documents at the General Assembly and assigned staff to work at the Office; ready to assign staff to work at the Office of the President of the United Nations General Assembly.
Vietnam is also ready to participate in co-coordinating the negotiation processes of documents, initially the process of drafting the 4th United Nations Oceans Conference (UNOC4) co-organized by South Korea and Chile in 2028.
General Secretary and President To Lam proposed that the United Nations General Assembly promote discussions on solutions for middle-income countries, especially in terms of access to finance, technology and knowledge for sustainable development; support the green transformation, digital transformation, and development model transformation; promote the building of a global governance cooperation framework on AI, ensuring inclusiveness, transparency and widespread participation of countries, fully reflecting the concerns and interests of developing countries, promoting fair technology access and narrowing the digital gap; promote new initiatives on climate change response.
The President of the United Nations General Assembly called for further strengthening the voice of Southern countries, considering the General Assembly as an important forum to express views and protect the interests of developing countries. Reaffirming his mission, the President of the United Nations General Assembly emphasized the determination to restore strategic trust in multilateralism and the central role of the United Nations.
At the meeting with the Prime Minister of the Vatican, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, General Secretary and President To Lam agreed to strengthen contacts to bring Vietnam - Vatican relations to develop more and more deeply. The General Secretary and President also requested the Vatican to encourage the Catholic Church of Vietnam to well implement the direction of "Respecting God, loving the country", accompanying the nation to contribute to the cause of building and developing the country.
The two sides agreed to continue to maintain high-level delegation exchanges and effectively implement the Mechanism of Meeting of the Joint Working Group; Representatives of the Holy See in Vietnam continue to closely coordinate with relevant agencies.
