At the beginning of April 2026, Ho Chi Minh City continuously recorded intense heat waves with temperatures ranging from 36 - 37 degrees Celsius, but the actual perceived outdoor temperature at times reached 40 - 42 degrees Celsius. The hot atmosphere is overwhelming, so cooling equipment in households and office buildings operates at full capacity, leading to a sharp increase in electricity consumption every day.
Statistics from the Ho Chi Minh City Power System Dispatch Center show that on April 7, Ho Chi Minh City's total electricity consumption reached 185.67 million kWh with a peak capacity (Pmax) of 8,888 MW. Just one day later, on April 8, these figures continued to be broken when the output reached the threshold of 190.69 million kWh and the peak capacity jumped to 9,107 MW.
In particular, electricity consumption on April 8 exceeded the record level of 2025 (178.81 million kWh recorded on August 5, 2025), up to 6.63% higher. It is predicted that the peak electricity consumption will continue to shift to higher levels at the end of April and May when the weather enters the hottest period.

To ensure continuous power supply in all situations, EVNHCMC has completed the maintenance and repair of the power grid with interrupted power supply before March 31.
During the peak dry season months, the Ho Chi Minh City electricity sector minimizes power outages for planned work, and prioritizes applying modern technologies such as live-line construction (repair on power-carrying grid), online porcelain washing and using mobile transformers to ensure that people's lives are not affected.
In particular, EVNHCMC is focusing on drastically implementing solutions according to Directive No. 09/CT-TTg on strengthening energy saving implementation, promoting energy transition and Directive No. 10/CT-TTg on strengthening the implementation of electricity saving and developing rooftop solar power of the Prime Minister.
Mr. Bui Trung Kien - Deputy General Director of EVNHCMC - said that the Corporation has proactively worked and reached an agreement with 3,150 large production customers on moving the load (from 5-10% capacity) from the peak night time (17:00 - 20:00) to after 22:00.
At the same time, more than 3,660 manufacturing and service customers have signed commitments to implement load adjustment (DR) upon notification, with a total relocation potential of up to 210 MW.
In addition to technical solutions, EVNHCMC affirms that the awareness of electricity use of each customer is the most important key to reducing pressure on the national power system. The Ho Chi Minh City electricity industry recommends that people and businesses should maintain the temperature of air conditioners at 26-28°C combined with wind fans to save electricity.
At the same time, EVNHCMC also encourages customers to install rooftop solar power systems, especially in the form of self-production and self-consumment.

In order to create convenience for people, EVNHCMC has implemented the "Notice on rooftop solar power development" section on the website and application (App) EVNHCMC CSKH so that customers can conveniently notify the electricity industry online in accordance with regulations.
